Microsoft Teams Web: How to Use Teams Online in Your Browser

In short: open teams.microsoft.com in Edge, Chrome, Firefox or Safari and sign in with your work or school account (personal accounts use teams.live.com). Teams for web works on computers only: on a phone, use the Teams app. To join a meeting, open its link and choose Continue on this browser.

Teams for web gives you chat, calls and meetings in a browser tab, with nothing to install. It is handy on a shared or locked-down computer, on Linux, or when you just need to join one meeting. Here is how to use Teams online and what to check when it does not work.

Where to open Teams web

  • Work or school account: go to teams.microsoft.com and sign in.
  • Personal account (Teams free): go to teams.live.com.

If you have both, sign in with the account that received the invitation. A mismatch is the most common reason for “you do not have access” messages.

Which browsers support Teams online

BrowserSupported versionsSystems
Microsoft EdgeLatest three versionsWindows, macOS, Linux
Google ChromeLatest three versionsWindows, macOS, Linux
Mozilla FirefoxLatest three versionsWindows, macOS, Linux
SafariLatest two versionsmacOS

Keep your browser up to date: an old version can fall outside the supported range. A few points to know:

  • Mobile browsers are not supported: on a phone or tablet, install the Teams app, or join the meeting by phone if a dial-in number is provided.
  • Linux: the Teams desktop app is no longer supported, so Linux users work with Teams for web or Teams installed as a progressive web app (PWA).
  • Virtual desktops (VDI): Teams for web is not supported there.
  • Third-party cookies: some third-party or line-of-business apps inside Teams need them allowed in the browser.

Join a Teams meeting in the browser

  1. Open the meeting link from your invitation on a computer.
  2. A launch page appears: choose Continue on this browser instead of opening the app.
  3. Allow the camera and microphone when the browser asks.
  4. Sign in, or, without an account, type your name. If the organizer allows anonymous join, you may wait in the lobby until someone admits you.

Make Teams web feel like an app

  • Pin the tab so Teams stays open and is easy to find.
  • Install it as an app from the browser menu (in Edge or Chrome, look for “Install” or “Apps”): Teams then opens in its own window, like a desktop app.
  • Allow notifications for the site if you want alerts for chats and calls.

When Teams online does not work

  • No camera or microphone: click the icon next to the address bar, open the site settings and allow camera and microphone, then reload the page.
  • Wrong account: open the meeting link in a private window and sign in with the right account, or join as a guest.
  • Blank page or endless loading: update the browser, try another supported browser, and check that third-party cookies are not blocked if an app inside Teams fails.
  • On a phone: the browser will not work, use the Teams app.

FAQ

Can I use Teams web without installing anything?

Yes. On a computer with a supported browser, open teams.microsoft.com (or teams.live.com for a personal account) and sign in. To join a meeting, the link alone is enough.

Is Teams online free?

Teams for web comes with your work or school Microsoft 365 account. With a personal Microsoft account you can use the free version of Teams at teams.live.com. Joining a meeting you are invited to does not require a paid plan.

Can I use Teams in a mobile browser?

No. Teams for web is not supported on mobile browsers. Use the Teams app on your phone, or join by phone if the invitation includes a dial-in number.

Does Teams web work on Linux?

Yes. The Teams desktop app is no longer supported on Linux, so Teams for web, or Teams installed as a progressive web app, is the way to go.

Share meetings that open easily in the browser

Long Teams links get cut in emails and chats. Paste yours on msteams.link to get a short link such as msteams.link/AB12, free and without an account for Teams links, so guests open the meeting in their browser in one click. If you work in Teams or Outlook on the web, our free Chrome extension shortens Teams links in one click.
