Teams Meeting Link Not Showing in Outlook? 7 Fixes

In short: the Teams link only appears once the event is saved or sent with the Teams meeting option turned on. If the option itself is missing, the Teams Meeting add-in is usually disabled (classic Outlook), you are on the wrong account, or your organization has not enabled Teams for you.

You create a meeting in Outlook, you expect the “Join the meeting” link… and nothing. Either the Teams button is missing, or the invitation has no link. Here are the seven causes we see most often, in the order to check them.

1. The event has not been saved yet

Outlook adds the Microsoft Teams block (with the Join link) when the event is saved or sent, not while you type. Save the event, close it and open it again from the calendar: the link is now at the bottom of the invitation.

2. The “Teams meeting” option is off

In Outlook on the web and the new Outlook, turn on the Teams meeting toggle in the event. In classic Outlook, select Teams meeting in the ribbon of the new event. To add it to every meeting automatically, look for the option to add an online meeting to all meetings in the calendar settings.

3. The Teams Meeting add-in is disabled (classic Outlook)

  1. In Outlook, go to File → Options → Add-ins.
  2. Check that Microsoft Teams Meeting Add-in for Microsoft Office is in Active Application Add-ins.
  3. If it is under Disabled Application Add-ins, choose COM Add-ins (or Disabled Items) in the Manage list, select Go, enable it, then restart Outlook.

4. Teams and Outlook need a restart or an update

The classic Outlook add-in is installed by the Teams desktop app. Quit Teams and Outlook completely, open Teams first, sign in, then open Outlook. If the button is still missing, update both apps.

5. You are using the wrong account or calendar

The Teams option is linked to your work or school account. If the event is in another calendar (a personal account, a shared calendar), Outlook may not offer a Teams meeting. Create the event in the calendar of the account that has Teams.

6. Your organization has not enabled it

Without a Teams license, or with a meeting policy that blocks the Outlook add-in, no link can be created. Only your IT administrator can fix this: Microsoft provides them a diagnostic for the Teams Meeting add-in.

7. You received the invitation and the link is hidden

As a guest, the link is after Join in the Teams block of the invitation. If you see a long safelinks.protection.outlook.com address, it is the same link rewritten by Microsoft Defender: see where to find and copy your Teams link in Outlook.

Workaround: create the link in Teams

While you fix Outlook, create the meeting in the Teams calendar, or use Meet now → Get a link to share, then paste the link in your Outlook invitation. See 5 ways to create a Teams meeting link.

Once you have the link

Teams links are more than 180 characters long. Paste yours on msteams.link to get a short link and a QR code, or install the Outlook add-in to add them to your invitations automatically.

FAQ

Why does the Teams link appear only after I send the invitation?

Teams creates the online meeting when Outlook saves the event. Before that, there is no meeting and therefore no link.

The Teams button disappeared from classic Outlook, what should I do first?

Check File → Options → Add-ins: the Teams Meeting add-in is often moved to the disabled add-ins after an Outlook crash.
